Senior Poem
Through the eyes of a veteran
Wipe away the steam on the mirror,
find your true self, or draw a new face
but never let that hide what lies behind,
time does not exist, to those that can catch it,
as a clock does, it moves slow, just let
go of time, prosper in every hour, second,
make every moment count, focus, the golden
rule, broken by the slightest noise, gather your wishes
into a mental pond, throw out your fishing line,
and snag that golden fish, the prized dream,
claim it, own it, display it on the wall of your brain,
never forget what you work towards,
friends, the hull of the life support boat
during school, make sure there are no holes,
a patch may provide a quick fix, but never works
in the long run, choose your boat wisely,
make sure that each piece can take the heat,
of its own actions, and never let the water go overboard
and sink your boat, when times are tough, show compassion
for others, but never overstep boundaries, don’t act like
you understand every aspect of their life, give advice, but
only advice that you would give yourself, don’t b.s.
the important things in life, last night’s homework,
the final exam, it doesn’t pay off in the long run,
always put forth the best effort you can, and when
you do, you might find out that life is not as
hard as it seems, overall the best advice that anyone
could give, is to just be yourself, you can’t be friends with
everyone, but don’t let that bother you, you have a lifetime
ahead of you, a whole life filled to the brim with hope, wonder, and a bright future.
