Staggering across the swamp of pavement,
I noticed something in the distance, blurry,
yet palpable, and as I moved closer to it,
it vanished like a disappearing snake.
As did the ashes of my youth,
I knew this summer would be my last,
gone by swift and sweet, the taste and
color of cherry kool-aid stained across
my lips, still longing for more.
